How to beat the algorithm and increase your Instagram engagement
Mayfield Ngondonga
May 5, 2021Instagram is one of the fastest moving platforms in terms of trends and what will get you on explore page. The ever-changing algorithms make it a challenge to keep up. Whether your a business owner an aspiring influencer or content creator these tips are a sure way to get the algorithm to work in your favour.
Instagram needs to see you are using all its features
Yes, all sounds like a lot but Instagram favours users who explore a range of their features, its a sign that you are not just a passive user but that you are really benefitting from the use of Instagram. As well as keeping your followers engaged in new and interesting ways, not just posting the same filtered pic that everyone else is posting.
Find your Tribe and create content for them
Rather the opposite trick for new TikTok users but it works on Instagram. Stick to a niche of some sort and build a tribe through this. If you’re into fashion try consistently posting fashion inspiration, looks etc. Not to say you can’t include a picture of your fancy dinner but people visiting your page should see instantly what your page is about and hopefully connect with the content in some way. Catering to your tribe increases the likelihood of potential followers not just liking your content but sharing, sending to other friends, commenting and clicking that all-important save button, this is what Instagram wants to see.
Maximise on Instagram stories.
Making use of Instagram stories is both an easier and more authentic way to connect with your followers. Not only do you not have to worry about posting top-quality pictures that will fit with your feed, but you can also say alot more in so many different ways. Make use of Instagrams poll feature to get talking to your followers, use the countdown feature to create excitement and anticipation, create a hashtag to start a movement around something you are doing consistently and invite your users to join in and use the hashtag. There are so many ways to create more engagement on your platform but you have to be active and be someone people want to find out about.
One thing to remember is social media is not real life remember to take the time to enjoy the moments away from Instagram. Let’s remember to keep our engagement with real life, our friends and family as our top priority.
