May 28, 2021Blue therapy has gotten the internet talking. Various conversations have been reignited on what the expectations are within a relationship and what both men and women bring to the table.
Blue therapy is a social experiment on relationships, where couples sit down with a relationship therapist and discuss their problems. The show is hosted on TREND CENTRL a youtube channel well known for being the creators of BKChat a controversial talk show.
The conversation begins with two couples Chioma and Paul and Deborah and Jamel.
Many viewers disagree with Paul’s arrogance and need to assert his dominance as well as his controlling behaviour towards Chioma and on the side of the ladies, comments have been made in regards to Deborah being too demanding and materialistic while Jamel is saving and has ambitions for the future. Rarely do we see the majority of the internet agreeing on something yet the vast majority of comments are in favour of Chioma and Jamel

Man: I do all that, but what do you bring to the table?
Woman: that’s rude, you shouldn’t be asking me that.

Blue therapy and the discussions it’s caused has got me thinking, are we obsessed with appearances and is it ruining our relationships?
Both couples mentioned how social media and their partners need to control their image is one of the problems in their relationships. Could this be due to the rise of social media lifestyle influencers? Instagram as well as rap culture has normalised an unsustainable lifestyle and increased the expectations within a relationship. We have prioritised materialism and looks over the raw emotional connection and love. Paul’s mention of Chioma ruining their brand is the speaks to the ways our society is more concerned with peoples perceptions of ourselves and our relationships while paying no attention to working on the internal parts of our relationship that no one else can see.
On the other hand, the rise of female rappers such as Meagan thee Stallion, Swaeetie and Cardi B have influenced young women perhaps more than we thought. This has been brought to attention by Deborah. Not concerned with Jamel’s efforts to save for the future Deborah demands presents and luxurious dates with no excuses. Both Paul and Deborah’s luxury taste is ruining their relationship. Can they fix it? Find out on the next episode of Blue Therapy.
