Meet twenty-four-year-old Teri Elizabeth Ellington, the entrepreneur that used the focus on her individual watch line ‘Ellington Timepiece’ to overcome her struggle with mental health. Four years into business and Ellington’s designs are thriving as reflected by sales. With eighty pounds in the bank when the company began, the entrepreneur has since received a thirty-five thousand loan which surely reflects the confidence that finance providers have in her.
How did the Gen Z business woman achieve her business goals in just four years; let’s take a look:
Ellington struggled with mental health issues as a teenager and developed a condition called Agoraphobia, which left her too overwhelmed to leave home because of her anxiety. With the support of a therapy dog, the Teesside raised entrepreneur began overcoming her condition. Ellington’s grandfather was a keen watch collector and it was this that inspired the Gen Z woman to venture into the entrepreneurial world and create her own bespoke watch line.
Ellington Timepiece was born in 2017, all from the entrepreneur’s bedroom and garage. Having completed multiple new watch collections, Ellington acquired her own office and received a loan from the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund to improve her portfolio and achieve support in the marketing department.
She has not only succeeded as an entrepreneur; Ellington has also racked up a large following on social media for blogging. Giving advice on YouTube and Instagram has created a wider audience for the entrepreneur’s brand and has spread of mental health awareness.
What to take away from Ellington’s story:
- Don’t let life struggles hold you back from achieving your goals
- Be inspired by what’s around you
- Make sure your involved in a supportive community
- Don’t be afraid to research funding for a business start up
- Utilise social media as a platform to promote your brand
‘If you fail, never give up because F.A.I.L means ‘First attempt in learning.’ End is not the end, in fact E.N.D means ‘Effort never dies.’ If you get a no as an answer, remember N.O means ‘Next opportunity.’
