May 13, 2021Named after a famous tennis player, Stan Smith’s not only have the clean and crisp aesthetic of a tennis player but the quality and endurance needed for the perfect tennis shoes. Adidas Stan Smith’s have kept true to their classic look using the same silhouette since 1973 while still maintaining a fresh and adaptable look, wearable for all ages and throughout the decades.
Sometimes the answer is right under our nose’s however Adidas has found the answer to sustainable shoes right under our feet. The iconic brand has been working to reduce their impact on our earth promising to use 100% recycled polyester in their products by 2024 and move away from depleting the earth’s precious resources and using materials that can essentially return to the earth.
Experimenting with materials not normally used for trainers comes with a few things to consider. Firstly the comfort of the shoes, finding materials that fit and mould to customers feet and daily movements. Durability, ensuring they can withstand different climates and are strong enough to last and lastly performance . Adidas hopes the new materials will perform even better than the traditional materials used for shoes.
The material used to create the Stan Smith Mylo’s is called Mycelium.
Mycelium is a sprawling, renewable interlaced web that threads through soil and produces mushrooms. Mycelium leather was originally unveiled by US biotechnology company Bolt Threads in 2018.
The classic shoe redesigned comes in a simple beige and brown colourway. Adidas continuously show they won’t compromise style for sustainability, creating conscious but classic shoewear. Stan Smith’s are the perfect shoes for business or casual, sports or relaxation. Made with every kind of sneakerhead in mind, the Stan Smiths are sure to last you through the years and through all occasions.
“The introduction of Mylo as a new material is a major step forward in our bold ambition to help END PLASTIC WASTE. As a planet, we must learn to work with nature rather than against it and put all our efforts into finding innovative solutions that are created responsibly with resources that renew at a sustainable pace. Designed in synergy with earth’s ecosystems. And as a brand, we continue to explore the possibilities in material innovation.”
