November 12, 2021Established as the Designer and Creative Director redefining the menswear scene is, twenty-eight year old, Bianca Saunders. The Royal College of Art Alumnus is breaking the gender boundary norms by selling her new generation menswear on her branded website and effectively redefining existing notions of masculinity.
Southeast London born, with Jamaican heritage has created the core to Saunders consistent elements in her designs. With a creative mind from the get-go, the designer was determined to make her mark on the fashion scene and went through university and a post-graduate masters to learn the ins and outs of the industry.
‘I first realised I wanted to be a designer around 14. I initially wanted to be an artist, but then one day my uncle, who is a creative graphic designer, told me that artists only make money when they die, so I scrapped that idea. But, with me, there’s always been a question of do I want to do fashion, or do I actually prefer graphic design?’
Over a decade later, Saunders is living her childhood dream by launching a collection at London Fashion Week, winning the Andam Fashion Awards Grand Prize, collaborating with Wrangler and being a part of the GucciFest platform in 2020.
When beginning her journey in the menswear industry, Bianca felt there was room for creating a dynamic path. ‘I was able to find my own aesthetic in menswear, as there was less to see and more space to change at the time.’
Often fitting her male models in feminine but wearable clothing, Bianca is the designer changing the fashion scene positively to fit with self-expression.
