Founder
Hack Your Closet With Mikaela Larsell Ayesa

November 6, 2021Meet Michaela Larsell Ayesa, the founder of the sustainable clothing subscription-based business ‘Hack Your Closet.’
The entrepreneur is known to have quite the solution-orientated vision having come from an innovation management and engineering background. With a seamstress grandmother, Larsell Ayesa has always had a passion for design and an eye for the economical and sustainability side of the fashion industry.
After meeting her co-founder Lisa Gautier, Larsell Ayesa was introduced to buying secondhand clothing and enjoyed the pre-loved feeling that has a positive impact on the world. Together, they founded the company in 2019 to ‘reduce and prevent waste in the apparel industry.’
‘I care a lot about my clothes – it’s emotional.’
How the platform works, is the customers establish their style preferences and match to other closet hackers looking to share their clothing. A selection is made each month and sent to the customer, so they achieve at least fifteen rotations of an item of clothing.
With over two million tons of unused clothes every year, Larsell Ayesa wanted to change the industry and power the freedom of changing clothes with no negative impact on the world.
‘I think that the fashion industry has created an unhealthy consumption behaviour that is now looking for a change. It is one of the industries where we are going to see a massive transformation during our lifetime and it’s happening now.’
