Meet Marianne Caroline Hughes, the twenty-three-year-old that holds an extensive number of positions as a philanthropist, marketer, blogger and entrepreneur. Notorious for her digital label start up ‘KnowLabel’, Hughes finds it important to highlight the social and environmental impact of the clothes you’re wearing.

Stick to the basics

Hughes found when beginning her entrepreneurial journey, she was inundated with tasks and was overwhelmed with ensuring each area had full attention. Since being in the business for two years, Hughes advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is:

‘Simplify…Everything. From Your Product Offering, To Your Personal Goals. Focus Is Everything.’

Take advantage of every opportunity

From Hughes experience, ‘The only thing worse than not having an opportunity is not taking advantage of one.’ Hughes designed a digital wall of clothing labels by acquiring the necessary skills from the ‘Women Hack for Non-Profits.’ The 2013 project gained a great deal of exposure by having people worldwide sending photos of their clothing labels to Hughes for the Fashion Revolution Day.

Hughes took the golden opportunity to gain skills and knowledge from the organisation, what opportunity will you take advantage of?

Be transparent to your customers

The entrepreneur has always liked to keep a transparent relationship with her customers so that she has long-lasting, constant communication and trust. The basis of Hughes company is information about what we’re wearing and the impact of the clothing for us and our planet, so it’s important for Hughes to stick with the same honesty with the business’s foundations.

‘Regret what you do, not what you don’t.’,
