Kali Ledger – An Influencer On A Makeup and Movement Mission
Jemima Hunter
June 7, 2021An advocate for racial equality, social media influencer Kali Ledger is almost at 300K, as she snaps her makeup techniques, fashion and hair tutorials.
The German media star began her journey with an art page she created as a youngster but ‘did not have the endurance of painting every day.’ Ledger considered herself rather camera shy at the start, so didn’t set about shooting until her early adult years. It was only when she posted a pink inspired photo that she realised social media was the platform on which to pursue her creative endeavours.
‘ I needed a creative outlet and found it in art and makeup.’
Ledger took inspiration from characters in films growing up and was ‘always in awe with the scenes’, especially if it involved some fashion statement pieces. ‘Success does not come overnight, I have worked nearly 2 years on Instagram, and I learned about photography, retouching, and videography 3 years prior.’ After late nights and long days, Ledger started to gain a substantial following and decided this was the career path to which to adhere.
As a woman of colour,in the eyes of the media Ledger believes the beauty industry is ‘a long way off’ to achieving diversity and so she uses her influential platform to educate others on racial injustice and to explain how to support the movement most effectively. ‘From a business perspective, I can tell you that a lot of brands are treating this [Black Lives Matter Movement] subject as a trend and a PR Stunt.’ Ledger also mentioned that she wasn’t following many black creators because they were recommended very rarely on her feed; which is something the makeup artist is determined to change about social media.
The influencer wishes to advise aspiring makeup artists, fashionistas and photographers to ‘Always strive to work hard and do your best, change your looks, techniques, and never give up on yourself.’
