Romanian born, internationally acclaimed designer, Ancuta Sarca, sells out a whole collection in several days as she introduces matching handbags to the trainer inspired mules. Her sustainable fashion brand is flourishing in the fashion industry, previously featured in Vogue, Dazed and London Fashion Week.

The London based designer started her creative journey in Romania, where she studied a BA and MA in Womenswear Fashion at the University of Art and Design of Cluj-Napoca, whilst completing an internship with Meadham Kirchhoff in London. ‘I was still studying so it was probably the most impactful work experience I had as it was also my first job in the industry, and I had so much to learn then.’

After learning some valuable knowledge on her course, Sarca started an occupation as an Assistant Designer in Ashish, an experimental, graphic inspired clothing brand. Three years later, the iconic designer, started her own brand where she experimented with fabrics, unique retro designs and upcycling old materials.

‘Realizing I have way too many shoes that were either broken or too old to be worn again so I decided not to discard them but give them a second life and also make something fun that I would like to wear.’ The thirty-year-old used the formation of her hybrid kitten shoes and sustainable materials as the foundation of her brand. ‘The idea behind this was to reuse my old shoes and feminise the trainers by pushing the boundaries of what they can become.’

Partaking in London Fashion Week, in the Fashion East spot left Sarca’s products like gold dust, with her whole spring collection selling out within an hour. Last year, Cher gave a shoutout to Sarca’s brand, which immediately increased her following and enhanced the desirable line.

‘Not only was it Cher, but also she’s an older woman. That opened my mind to our future clients not just being for young people.’

The innovative designer wishes to carry on surprising the nation with her ingenious and resourceful designs whilst gaining respect in the fashion industry. ‘I want to fully dedicate myself to finding new ways of creating sustainable collections.’
