Meet Jamika Martin, the Californian-based twenty-four-year-old who is solving acne issues and making millions due to her skin-care brand ‘Rosen.’ Read on to find out more about how this Gen Z achieved her business goals and how you can do the same.

Having dealt with acne as a pre-teen, Martin had never found a solution to her skin problems. With foolproof ingredient lists and exciting branding, Martin decided to take matters into her own hand and start a skincare brand targeted at the millennial and Gen Z market. ‘I remember feeling like folks with acne-prone skin were being left out of the conversation.’

Some questions to think about:

            •           What’s missing in the market?

            •           Have you taken a look at competitors to establish your domain?

Whilst at UCLA, Martin took a couple of entrepreneurial courses and eventually launched her skincare brand whilst completing the Start-up UCLA Accelerator Course, graduating early to focus on Rosen.  ‘It helped me think about Rosen as a scalable business.’

            •           It’s good to get as much experience under your belt as possible, take a look at attending some courses to improve your skills in areas you’re not as knowledgeable on.

Martin believes creating a good relationship with others that have expertise in a specific area, is beneficial to creating a foundation. To aspiring entrepreneurs, Martin’s advice is to ‘get started and find people who will respond to your questions.’

Inclusive elements make for a positive impact in the industry

‘I want behind-the-scenes inclusivity. I don’t care about your Instagram feed or influencers you work with if you still can’t have a diverse team.’ Martin makes sure she hires diverse decision-makers so that it’s an inclusive process throughout not an aesthetic afterthought.
