Singer and entrepreneur, Selena Gomez hits 2.5M followers on her new ‘Rare Beauty’ makeup brand Instagram account. Let’s take a look at the idea behind the name and what the future holds for the inclusive company.

The twenty-eight-year-old founded the brand in order to embrace individuality and reveal honest beauty without following unrealistic expectations. ‘Being rare is about being comfortable with yourself.’ The makeup company’s name is based loosely on Gomez’s new album ‘Rare’ that was released last year, referred by her as a personal diary of her life from the most recent years.

With twelve formulas and more than a hundred shades, Gomez spent two years ensuring the perfect balance of pink and yellow to fit the natural tones of everyone’s skin. The actress revealed she struggles with bi-polar disorder and is an advocate for ensuring mental health awareness. ‘I never had full awareness or answers about this condition. When I have more information, it helps me, it doesn’t scare me once I know it.’

Gomez established Rare Impact Fund, to raise money for mental health services, which has a goal of 100 million to raise. The entrepreneur also keeps a blog on the website to share experiences with her health and advice. ‘I hope by sharing my own story and using my brand and platform to talk about and connect more people to resources that support their mental health, I can encourage others to get the help they need and bring more mental health services to educational settings.’

The star’s aim for the makeup brand is to make everyone feel celebrated and continue to use her platform to her advantage of spreading awareness and keep the makeup industry inclusive.

‘I want people to feel like they have a community to turn to and resources that are helpful to them.’
