Having committed to her career blogging for more than 10 years Melissa has nailed the world of influencing and flexible working that many of us dream of having, however, the journey there is no walk in the park. Here are some tips from Melissa on how to create content that will lead you to a life of freedom

 

Make your own opportunities

After completing her degree in criminology Melissa knew she wanted to become a stylist but her portfolio didn’t have enough variety to get her started in her career. This is where she created her blog Melissa’s wardrobe, showcasing her own style in hopes people would hire her as their own personal stylist and shopper. Don’t just wait for an opportunity to come to you find ways to showcase your work and what you’re capable of even if you can’t get a job or internship. Offer to assist people in your field, create a website and show potential clients you are an expert in your field.

If you fail to prepare, be prepared to fail

Being organised is key when running your own business or working independently. Don’t leave room for mistakes and confusion by being unprepared. Create a content schedule where you shoot more than one piece of content in a day and arrange a day to edit your content.

Interact with your followers – Melissa style

Instagram stories have been a game-changer for allowing Instagram users to interact with their followers in a deeper and personal way. Melissa’s bubbly and funny personality has gained her thousands of new followers during quarantine. Melissa uses her stories to share her latest buys, giving honest reviews and asking for her follower’s opinions through Instagram polls and questions. She has also bought her followers in on her personal life sharing her thoughts on relationships and other interesting conversations that have gotten floods of people in her dm’s sharing relatable and funny stories that melissa would anonymously share.

The  #MelMadeMeDoIt hashtag came about after products Melissa recommended were getting sold out. It became it sort of community like Nicki Minaj’s Barbz. Melissa’s influence had such an impact on her followers they were essentially helping her promote products she had affiliates with as well as showing brands that her followers trust her and will buy what she recommends.

Stay true to yourself

Instagram is filled with so many content creators and the fight to stand out is real. Focus on your own content and what makes you special. If a new trend comes out that doesn’t seem true to you let it pass. Quality over quantity!
