July 14, 2021

Thirty-year-old Nathaniel Curtis poses for Models of Diversity in his recent Instagram post, with the hashtag ProudNation, to draw the viewers’ attention to the ‘lack of diversity in advertising.’

The half English, Indian actor and model, is widely known for playing his first scene acting role as Ash Mukherjee in ‘It’s A Sin’, a Channel 4 five-part series which portrays the unconditional love of a friendship group based in London and the shared traumas of living through the AIDS epidemic in 1981.

Bournemouth born Curtis always valued acting and performed often in school plays. Curtis joined extra curriculum drama class in his youth taking part in Nativity, as his first ever stage performance. ‘On a whim I applied to drama school when I was 19 and I got in, and here we are today!’

The Channel 4 star then attended the East 15 Drama School, where he was later presented with an Offie nomination, the award for small-scale productions in London, as a result of his outstanding performance in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. In addition, Curtis landed other main roles in Regent’s Park productions like Pride and Prejudice, as well as The Tempest. Whilst touring London to perform theatrical plays, Curtis simultaneously joined a primary school to help children with special needs.

Curtis auditioned for the part of Ash in mid 2019 and had a call back a week later from the directing and producing agents. ‘A couple of weeks later I got the call to say I’d won the part and it seemed very surreal. Filming the show was absolutely one of the best experiences of my life.’

After weeks of filming, the launch of the show scored thousands of viewers worldwide, as they identified strongly with the characters; it was nicknamed  ‘raw truth’ by The Guardian. Curtis gained quite the following on social media, racking up to almost 70K on Instagram and getting requested by media agencies. Where will the fresh face move next?
