This year has been a great opportunity for growth for many creatives. Quarantine has proven difficult for everyone particularly those with extroverted tendencies. However, with so much spare time creative individuals have used the time to sharpen their skills, learn new skills or start on projects they have always wanted to do.

This applies for London based DJ, presenter and content creator Henrie Kwushue who has been a part of many exciting projects in the last year.

You may have seen her first via her youtube channel series ‘Is Your Area Changing’.With a passion for the black community in London and showcasing young black talent, Henrie uses this series to highlight the ways gentrification is attempting to erase the communities she cares for and interview the people that brighten up the community.  Although you could never tell, the youtube series all started as a way for Henrie to challenge her shyness as well as bring more representation to the media industry.

“With my production company, it’s important to me to have black women’s voices heard.”

The talented Londoner is also the co-host of Spotify music podcast Who We Be TALKS_ in partnership with the UK’s biggest and best Hip-Hop, Afrobeats, Dancehall and RnB playlist celebrating black music and culture. In this podcast, Henrie and popular presenter Harry Pinero dive into the personal and professional lives of different artists giving you the latest tea on all your favourite UK artists. The show has featured artists such as Stefflon Don, Ghetts, Young T, Ms Banks as well as various creatives and YouTubers such as Nella Rose.

Henrie’s career has been centered around helping people from underprivileged communities. Through the Dazed 100 ideas fund in partnership with Converse Henrie has been able to start her own production company ‘HTK productions hiring and giving opportunities to creatives from various disciplines such as creative direction, production, videography, editing, project management and more.

After winning the dazed funding Henrie has grown exponentially and is using her influence and industry connections to help others come up.

“This is really meaningful to me because I remember how hard it was – working in news, TV and radio – when I was the only one that believed in me (and) my ideas.I don’t want people to feel that way, and if I can create a community of people where their differences unite them, that will just be incredible. I want to enable people who have the talent to shine, regardless of their circumstances.”

After hard work and perseverance Henrie and her team at HTK productions have launched ‘Untold stories’ a 19 part series discussing 6 different topics. The series aims to share the stories that remind us we are all human, we feel pain, joy, love and a whole array of emotions that deserve to be acknowledge felt and heard. The more we share our stories the more we can feel connected to each other and not feel so alone.

Untold stories is set to launch on the 29th of June available on youtube. For more information on Henrie’s next projects keep up to date with her via Instagram.
