It has to be said, Tara Bosch has cracked the code for the healthy sweet market by founding ‘Smart Sweets’, the confectionary company that offers a growing line of low-sugar sweet products, to combat unhealthy relationships with food.

Let’s take a look at how the young entrepreneur went about starting her business and some tips for any aspiring entrepreneurs looking to get involved in the food market.

What problems exist that you can solve?

With a love affair for sweet treats that was creating an unhealthy future for Bosch, the entrepreneur decided it was about time to create a brand done better than ever before that puts an end to the cycle of the bad reputation of sweets and makes it a health-conscious brand.

Take some time to think about what’s missing in the market or a problem in an industry that’s misrepresented that you can change. – This will be the core to your business.

Do research into the market

For Bosch, she would sometimes spend up to sixteen hours a day researching healthy alternatives for sugar that she could use for her sweets. Although she had minimal experience in cooking, she became quite well-versed on using platforms to do in depth research into the topic.

It took up to two hundred types of experimentation for Bosch to find her perfect recipe, sugar free and delicious. So, if you are looking to get into a market you are not too knowledgeable about make sure to spend time researching and continuing with trial and error until you find your suitable end result.

Create a prototype and gather feedback

The entrepreneur finished up her prototype and began sending it out to peers and family to see what feedback she received and whether there was any room for change. Fortunately, the reviews were all positive, which was when Bosch decided to kick start her business into action with mentors to help her along the way.

After persevering with cold calling and emailing to retailers, Bosch took her first step in the industry when she landed her first bulk order and has continuously grown her company with profits of over a hundred million.
