Palestinian artist Sarah Bahbah explores attachment theory the psychological and ethological theory that explains why we are attracted to who we are attracted to and how our childhood interactions shape our relationships. The artist has created a photo series titled Fool Me Twice featuring a couple whose deeply passionate relationship turns dark and triggers internal wounds.

Throughout the series, we get a deeper look into the dynamics between an anxiously attached person and the avoidant. The artist conveys both the addictive euphoric feeling between the lovers but also the red flags the anxiously attached person ignores.

The series features Alisha Boe, star of the Netflix drama 13 Reasons Why, and rom-com actor Noah Centineo.

The 29-year-old visual artist is known for her thought provocating messages, diving into challenging topics such as abuse, heartbreak, love, dysfunctional relationships and finding freedom. What makes Bahbah’s work so raw and intriguing is that she draws from her own experience bringing honesty and truth in everything she creates.

After finishing the series recently, fans have already returned asking when the next series will be released and if the latest series will be made into a Netflix film. With the world of relationships being so complicated the series has given many people an awakened understanding of their own relationships allowing them to feel seen and understood. We are so used to seeing perfect relationships on social media so for many to see a raw and complicated depiction of love was both refreshing and necessary.

Her romantic and symbolically colour graded images are captivating and leave the reader wanting to see more and know more about the characters. Bahbah’s visual storytelling is everything you would want from a good book or film. Stunning visually, nuanced with a complicated plot, desire and passion and a hopeful ending.
